The design of this year’s poster has been carried out by the graphic artist Nuria Riaza (Almansa, 1990), Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia.
Riaza’s style has a disturbing and surreal touch, whether in her well-known illustrations based on blue Bic pen or in her collages made from old family and cinema photographs; her works always have a mysterious point.
In this case, the main image of the poster for the 2022 edition of the Skyline Benidorm Film Festival, made by this visual artist, is a portrait of the Spanish filmmaker Ana Mariscal, considered by critics to be one of the best European film directors of the 20th century. A pioneer who signed her own scripts and brought them to the screen as a director. She was also a noted film and stage actress, and an award-winning writer.
The poster for this edition of the Festival is also an ode to short films, the value of analog media and experimentation. The illustration on the poster itself is a collage, made up of elements drawn in ballpoint pen that have been cut out and recomposed with each other. As if it were celluloid frames in the montage of a surreal film.
Nuria Riaza‘s work focuses on the real role that the figure of women has had in contexts in which history (and memory) have silenced her. In addition, she gives great importance in her projects to manual means of expression such as embroidery, drawing and ceramics, which become a direct bridge of connection with our roots. And speaking of roots, on the poster we will find a nod to Benidorm, but this time to one of its hidden gems, the Serra Gelada Natural Park and its flora, we encourage you to find it…
Skyline Benidorm Film Festival will be held in Benidorm from April 2 to 9, 2022. In addition, its programming can be enjoyed through the VOD Filmin platform for those who cannot travel to this city in the Marina Baixa on this date.
