Skyline Benidorm Film Festival, one of the most prominent film events in Marina Baja, has opened the call for submissions for the ninth edition of its screenplay competition. Applications will remain open until January 10, 2025, and the full contest rules can be found on the festival’s official website: Contest Rules.
Beatriz Hernández, director of the Skyline Benidorm Film Festival, comments:
“The Skyline script competition is one of the fundamental pillars of our festival. With each edition, we strive not only to discover new voices but also to provide a platform for screenwriters to connect with directors or producers and further develop their projects. This year, we aim to continue promoting emerging and professional talent with the same passion that has defined us since the beginning.”
This competition is aimed at emerging and professional screenwriters who can submit scripts for short fiction, animation, or documentary films in Spanish or Valencian/Catalan. The theme is open, allowing both original works and literary adaptations. The winning screenplay will be awarded a prize of €1,500 and a trophy that recognizes excellence and originality in cinematic writing.
A Springboard for Great Stories
Skyline Benidorm Film Festival has become a platform for projects that have achieved success after participating in the competition. Among the most notable examples are:
- “La Piscina” by Santiago Cardelús and Pablo Manchado.
- “Esto no es Noruega” by Paco Cavero.
- “El pensamiento mágico” by Eva Saiz.
- “Paris 70”, born from the screenplay “Papá está de viaje” by Nach Solís, which became the most awarded Spanish short film of 2023.
Beatriz Hernández adds:
“It is a source of pride to see how scripts presented at the festival have been filmed and transformed into great short films, recognized and awarded both nationally and internationally. Projects like ‘La Piscina’ or ‘Paris 70’ are clear examples of the impact this competition has. We love being part of that creative process and supporting creators along the way.”

This year, with new activities and initiatives, we aim to remain a reference in the Spanish cultural scene, especially in regard to short films—a format that deserves all our attention and support.”
