Benidorm, March 18, 2025 – The Skyline Benidorm Film Festival is honored to announce that the Skyliner Award 2025 will be presented to actress, journalist, and TV host Cayetana Guillén Cuervo, in recognition of her contribution to the short film industry and her support and promotion through the Versión Española Short Film Competition.

A key figure in the audiovisual industry, Cayetana Guillén Cuervo has built a versatile and admirable career. Her work in film, with memorable performances in movies such as A Gun in Each Hand (2012), by Cesc Gay, and The Grandfather (1998), by José Luis Garci—an Academy Award-nominated film for which Cayetana also received a Goya Award nomination for Best Leading Actress—has been acclaimed by critics and audiences alike. On television, she has been a prominent presence in iconic series like The Ministry of Time and as the host of Versión Española, a program that has championed auteur cinema and emerging talent for over two decades.

Her commitment to Spanish short films is evident through her support for the Versión Española / SGAE Short Film Competition, which has served as a platform to discover the filmmakers who are now among the greatest directors in Spanish cinema. Many of them have acknowledged the contest’s importance as a fundamental starting point in their careers, where the spotlight has been placed on the best emerging talent.

Moreover, Versión Española has been a benchmark in audience education, teaching generations to perceive Spanish cinema differently, to understand who we are, and to give meaning to its professionals. All of this has been possible thanks to her dedication to public service broadcasting at Televisión Española, establishing it as a crucial space for the promotion and appreciation of Spanish cinema.

Cayetana has also starred in notable short films such as Buen viaje, Sexo en el plató, Manolito Espinberg, une vie de cinéma, Los amigos del muerto, and the special short film Antes de que no haya tiempo from The Ministry of Time.

The Skyliner Award is presented each year to a personality whose impact on cinema and audiovisual culture has been significant. Cayetana Guillén Cuervo was selected not only for her prolific career but also for her defense of creativity, support for young talent, and contribution to independent cinema. Her ability to connect generations and her passion for storytelling have left an indelible mark on the industry.

Beatriz Hernández, director of the Skyline Benidorm Film Festival, expressed her enthusiasm for this decision:
“Cayetana Guillén Cuervo is a true reference in the audiovisual landscape and a passionate advocate for cinema in all its forms. She has always championed short films, supporting them through Versión Española for 21 editions of the Short Film Competition. Her commitment to short films, love for independent cinema, and relentless energy to highlight new voices make her the perfect recipient of the Skyliner Award 2025. We are honored that she has accepted this recognition in our ninth edition.”

The award ceremony will take place during the Skyline Benidorm Film Festival opening gala on March 29 at 7:00 PM at the Auditorium of the Benidorm Cultural Center.
